The ferry to the Toronto Island Airport has been named in honour of Marilyn Bell, the first person to swim across Lake Ontario.
Now known by her married name, Bell-Di Lascio, she was chosen in a month-long online contest which attracted 1000 votes.
Bell-Di Lascio made history in 1954 when, at the age of 16, she spent 21 hours battling pollution, eels and frigid cold temperatures to swim across the lake from Youngstown, N.Y., to just west of Exhibition Place.
Her landing spot is now better known as Marilyn Bell Park.
