Premier McGuinty’s decision to get rid of a stand-alone minister of aboriginal affairs is being called a step backwards by an aboriginal leader.
Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Stan Beardy says he’s disappointed that McGuinty doesn’t think aboriginal issues are worthy of having a stand-alone minister.
Chris Bentley took on the responsibility for aboriginal affairs in yesterday’s cabinet shuffle, along with his duties as attorney general.
A separate minister for aboriginal affairs was a key recommendation of the inquiry report into a fatal shooting of a native protester at Ipperwash Provincial Park.
