7,600 Dorel Asia drop-side cribs recalled in Canada over concern the drop-side can detach

More than 7,000 drop-side cribs distributed by Dorel are being voluntarily recalled in Canada over concerns the drop-side can detach, creating a space where a child can be trapped.

The cribs were manufactured by Barbados-based Dorel Asia in China and Vietnam, and sold in Canada at Sears, Babies R Us and various other retailers.

Dorel Distribution Canada said Tuesday it had received three reports of the drop-side detaching from the crib and four other incidents were the slats on the crib broke.  No injuries were reported.

Health Canada said it had received two reports of incidents with no injuries. Rick Leckner, spokesman for Dorel Distribution Canada, in Montreal said approximately 7,600 of the cribs were sold in Canada from December 2006 to January 2010.

Health Canada has posted a recall notice involving the 3-in-1 Carlisle drop-side crib with model number 1-0-h-0-2-0 in dark cherry, and the Tara drop-side crib with model number d-a-k-m-5-1-3-2-c in white.

Rick Leckner, a spokesman for Dorel Distribution Canada in montreal, says the cribs are no longer in stores, but consumers should check their cribs at home.

Consumers are asked to examine the drop-side hardware for signs of damage, and call 1-800-295-1980 for a free repair kit.
