Victim of bizarre mugging in city’s west-end speaks out

The victim in one of Toronto’s strangest crimes is speaking out.

The 25-year-old woman told the Toronto Star she had accepted her death as she hung onto the side of a stolen minivan in the west-end last night.

She was walking home from the grocery store along Prince Charles St., which is located in the Bathurst St. and Lawrence Ave. area, around 9 p.m. when she was struck by the vehicle.

And instead of helping her, the woman who was driving the van jumped out and grabbed the victim’s wallet.  The victim said she ran after the suspect, but when she grabbed onto the vehicle’s sliding door, the driver reversed and dragged her across the street.

She fell off just before the car slammed into a hydro pole.

Police are now trying to determine if the suspect was trying to run the 25-year-old down on purpose.

CityNews spoke with residents in the area who are stunned by the incident.

One neighbour said “I was shocked – I couldn’t really believe that something like that would actually really happen […] the details of the situation sounds unreal.”

While another woman simply called it “ridiculous.”

The suspect is still on the loose after running from the crime scene.

Police need the public’s help to locate her.

She is described as:

– White
– 20-25-years-old
– 5’4″
– 106 lbs.
– Having blonde hair in a pony tail

The victim told the CBC even though she’s bruised and sore she is also incredibly thankful.  She added the first person on the scene was a doctor.
