Police identify man who died in Toronto’s Don Jail

Police have identified an inmate who died at the Don Jail in Toronto over the weekend.

Kevon Phillip, 24, was found by correctional staff on Saturday around 3:35 p.m. with obvious signs of trauma and was rushed to hospital where he later died.

A post-mortem will be performed on Monday, and police are continuing to investigate.

It’s the second death of an inmate at the jail in less than two months.

On Nov. 6, 32-year-old inmate Jeff Munro was beaten, police allege there was a dispute over a stolen bag of potato chips.

The Don Jail holds short-term prisoners who are generally awaiting trial or sentencing.
