Trees Ontario asks people to make a green New Year’s resolution

Trees Ontario is asking people to make a green New Year’s resolution, as they say the province needs more than a million trees to be planted across southern Ontario to protect watershed and restore natural cover.

The non-profit organization says despite more than three million trees being planted in 2009, more needs to be done.

Southern Ontario has lost 99 percent of its older growth forest, over 94 percent of its upland forests and 70 percent of its wetlands.

The lack of trees has led to various species being robbed the wildlife of their natural habitat, thus putting them at risk of extinction.
