Harper’s Christmas message discusses Canadian Soldiers, Vancouver 2010

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said it has been a difficult year, but Canadians have much to look forward to in 2010.

In his annual Christmas message on Friday, Harper stated “this year we have even more reasons to give thanks. A challenging year has ended well, and a new year brings hope and promise”.

He began his speech on a solemn note, and asked Canadians to keep soldiers stationed in Afghanistan close to our hearts, as they celebrate the holiday season.

However, his tune became positive as the speech progressed, stating that our country is ready to host the world at the Vancouver Olympics, and our athletes are up to the challenge.

He added that political events such as the G8 and G20 meetings will put us in the global spotlight, and that the new year is full of hope and promise.

The Queen also made her annual Christmas address Friday, and like Prime Minister Harper, gave thanks to those fighting overseas.

“I’m sure that we’ve all been affected by events in Afghanistan, and saddened by the causalities suffered by our forces serving there”

She concluded that 2010 could not come soon enough.
