Three Canadians among passengers on troubled American Airlines flight

A spokesperson with Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs said three Canadians were among the 154 people on board an American Airlines flight that skidded off the runway at a Jamaican airport.

Dana Cryderman said consular officials in Kingston, Jamaica are trying to get in touch with the passengers to determine if they were hurt.

The incident happened late Tuesday night when American Airlines flight 331 tried to land in heavy rain at Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport.

Witnesses said the plane bounced and skidded well off the runway before stopping short of the Caribbean Sea.

The impact cracked the plane’s fuselage, caused luggage to burst from overhead bins and crushed the left landing gear.

Airport and Jamaican government officials said 44 people were taken to hospital with injuries and four were in serious condition, while American Airlines said only two people were admitted to hospital.
