Olymel, Royal, Lafleur deli meats possible Listeria bacteria hazard; recall issued

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the manufacturer  are warning the public not to consume some ready-to-eat deli meats from Olymel as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The products include extra lean cooked ham, mock-chicken loaf, bologna and mock chicken loaf and chopped cooked ham and mock chicken loaf under the Olymel, Royal and Lafleur brands, and pepperoni family pack sold under the Roma brand.

The products, sold in various sized packages, have been distributed in Quebec and Ontario.

There have been no reported illnesses and the manufacturer, Olymel S.E.C. of Montreal, is voluntarily recalling the affected products.

Food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled, but can cause high fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness and nausea.

Infection during pregnancy can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.
