Harper arrives in Copenhagen for UN climate talks

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has arrived in Copenhagen, Thursday, to join other world leaders for the final days of UN climate talks.

But those negotiations, now into their 11th day, remain deadlocked as rich and developing countries have failed to agree on key issues.

Chief among those issues is short- and long-term financing to help poor and susceptible countries cope with the effects of a warming planet.

Developing countries have also stalled the talks over what they see as inadequate commitments by rich countries to reduce their greenhouse gases.

So heavily bracketed — negotiator parlance for areas lacking consensus — is the draft negotiating text that some are worried details will bog down a deal.
