Racy ad could soon be plastered on TTC streetcars

A controversial advertising campaign is slated to launch on TTC streetcars.

Toronto’s AshleyMadison.com and the TTC have agreed to promote an infidelity dating website on custom TTC streetcars.

The online dating site connects married people for discreet affairs.

For starters, the slogan “Life is Short, Have an Affair” will be plastered on one street car and if public outrage is minimal it will be put on another nine cars.

At the intersection of Yonge and Bloor, some transit riders have already started to squirm.

“I think somebody’s going to make a lot of money stooping so low as to do that, I think the TTC should have much higher standards.”

Meantime, TTC chair Adam Giambrone will not comment on the ads before seeing them; but, he said riders can complain and there is a committee to deal with issues over racy advertising.

“Well it takes five complaints to put it under review and then of course it’s up to the advertising review committee to take consideration of those five or more.”

More than 4.6-million people have joined the site, which has become one of the top dating sites online.

Toronto is one of fastest growing cities on the site.

The company has had difficulty getting advertising accepted in cities across North America. They’ve had TV commercials, radio spots, billboards and even a Super Bowl ad rejected.
