Multi-lotto winner in Alberta finally prevails in prize dispute; will get $17M

November, 2, 2009 - 01:25 pm THE CANADIAN PRESS

CALGARY - An Alberta man has been successful in a bid to collect his fifth lottery prize in the last five years.

Seguro Ndabene of Airdrie, just north of Calgary, had already pocketed two wins of $1 million, another of $100,00 and a smaller prize of $50,00.

But his biggest win of all - $17 million in a Super 7 draw in January - was being disputed after someone else claimed he was involved with Ndabene in a group buy.

An official with Alberta's Court of Queen's Bench has been told, however, that there is no longer anyone else claiming the prize, so once the paperwork is complete Ndabene will get his money.

Ndabene, who immigrated to Canada from Mozambique in 1984, said there is no secret to his winning ways.

He says he remains angry at the Western Canada Lottery Corp. for not paying him earlier and intends to go after the interest on his latest winnings.
