Body of Cpl. Brian Pinksen returns to Canadian soil

680News staff, with a report from The Canadian Press Sep 02, 2010 18:12:26 PM
Canadians waved flags and saluted - while others stood with their heads bowed as the body of the latest solider to die on the Afghan mission made its way down the Highway of Heroes, Thursday.

The cortege carrying the flag-draped coffin of Cpl. Brian Pinksen then reached the downtown Toronto coroner's office.

The 21-year-old was wounded in a roadside bomb blast on Aug. 22 during a routine patrol southwest of Kandahar.

He died in a German hospital on Monday.

Pinksen, a member of 2nd Battalion with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, was based in Corner Brook, N.L.

His death marks the 152nd Canadian trooper to be claimed by the mission since it began in 2002.
