TORONTO - Thousands of hotel workers around North America are expected to take part in a protest against the Hyatt chain of hotels.
The workers are staging this protest to express their anger at management over the poor treatment of workers.
A study published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine showed that Hyatt room attendants reported the highest injury rate among five peer hotels, and workers are saying the company has done nothing to alleviate staff work load.
The Hyatt is also being accused of firing its entire housekeeping staff at three hotels in Boston and replacing them with workers earning minimum wage.
Workers say these actions are unnecessary in thee face of improving economic conditions in the hotel industry.
As many as 500 workers in Toronto, as well as workers in as many as 15 cities in North America, are expected to take part in the protest, scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
