February unemployment rate falls to 8.2 per cent, 21,000 jobs created

The Canadian Press Mar 12, 2010 10:34:02 AM

OTTAWA, Ont. - Canada's unemployment rate fell to 8.2 per cent in February from 8.3 per cent the previous month. The economy created 21,000 jobs in the month.

Economists had generally expected the economy would add 15,000 jobs, although some predicted it could be closer to January's advance of 43,000.

The unemployment rate last month was down from 8.3 per cent in January.

Statistics Canada said there was a notable gain in full-time positions last month, partially offset by a decline in part-time work.

There were 60,000 more full-time jobs in February and 39,000 fewer part-time jobs.
