TORONTO, Ont. - How's your driving?

According to a new poll, eight in 10 Canadian motorists openly admit to having at least one bad driving habit.

A new survey by kanetix.ca, an online insurance quote comparison website, found the worst one is eating behind the wheel, at 39 per cent.

Also, 36 per cent of drivers admit to speeding.

"About 140 [kilometres an hour] in 100 [zone]. One ticket long time ago," Allison said.

Talking or texting also seems to be one of the biggest pet peeves, at 18 per cent.

"They're not paying attention, they're stopped at traffic lights and they're not going when it's green, and we have a bunch of cars behind us," another driver said.

Anthony said when he's tired, he goes hands-free.

"I'm the best driver; I drive with my knees. I bet I could better drive better with my knees than half the people who just got their licence out there," Anthony said.

Also, 16 per cent of drivers said they follow too closely, while three per cent said they put their makeup on while driving.

Meanwhile, 19 per cent of respondents said they consider themselves a "perfect driver."

Other key findings of the survey include:

  • Road rage: 11%
  • Failing to signal: 10%
  • Weaving in and out of traffic: 7%
  • Parking illegally: 3%
  • Parking in handicap spaces: 2%
  • Driving in the carpool lane: 1%
