Christmas spending expected to hit $1,100 per person

Have you started Christmas shopping yet?

Spending in Canada is expected to hit $1,100 per person this holiday season. That total includes gifts, food and entertainment.

In the GTA, the figure is $1,600, which is up three per cent from last season.

Forty-six per cent of Canadians plan to shop online.

Only one-third plan to shop in the U.S., even though our dollar is close to parity with the greenback.

And expect wagging tails this holiday season too. Half of the pet owners in the U.S. plan to buy their pets presents this Christmas presents and will spend an average $46 on toys and treats.
