Ottawa expands Canadian Border Services Agency's fugitives list

Amber LeBlanc Aug 18, 2011 14:01:34 PM
The feds have expanded a Canada Border Services Agency fugitive list, looking for criminals who are legally living in Canada.

Federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, along with other government officials, made the announcement Thursday.

Last month, the government unveiled a list of suspected war criminals living the GTA. Those pictures netted seven arrests, with six nabbed here in Canada.

The majority of those people have been deported, which is the goal here.

Now Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said they're searching for landed immigrants, who are accused or have been convicted of "serious criminality."

"Murder, serious sexual assaults, armed robbery, drug trafficking and the like," Toews said.

The photos of the fugitives can be seen here. Anyone with information can contact the Canadian Border Services Agency by calling the Border Watch toll-free number at: 1-888-502-9060.

They're looking for about 1,400 people in the GTA, 2,700 across Canada

The CBSA is hoping members of the public will recognize the suspects and turn them in to Canadian border officials.

However, the public is being advised not to approach any of the suspects they may recognize from the pictures, but rather, to phone the toll-free number listed above.
