LONGUEUIL, Que. - About 50 people in Longueuil, Que., driven from their homes when a man barricaded himself in an apartment are back in their residences.

The incident began at about midnight when a woman told police her ex-husband was depressed, aggressive, drunk and possibly armed. The man initially refused to leave the apartment, so police evacuated the area and set up a security perimeter as a precaution.

Police eventually arrested the man at about 6 a.m. in the top floor of a duplex and took him to hospital for an assessment.

No word yet on if the 37-year-old man was armed.
