TORONTO, Ont. - EMS volunteers collecting Tim Hortons' gift cards for Canadian troops in Afghanistan said there has been an overwhelming response to the program.
The 'Share a Cup with a Brave Canuck' program, now in its third year, asks Canadians to donate a $10 coffee card to Canadian troops for use at the Tim Horton's at the Kandahar Base.
"We have legions, we have church groups, we have cadet groups, we have businesses, we have a woman who lives in a retirement home, and she actually canvasses her retirement home," said Ric Rangel-Bron of Toronto EMS.
"It does reach out and touch them. They do actually have a sense that people are thinking of them."
Rangel-Bron told 680News he has received hundreds of thank-you letters from soldiers, one of whom said he even keeps his spent Tim's card on patrol as a reminder of home.
23,000 cards have been sent from across the country to date.
