Mississauga man charged after vehicle strikes 3-year-old
Mississauga - A 48-year old Mississauga man has been charged after a 3-year old boy was hit by a vehicle on Brittania Road near Glen Erin Drive early Wednesday morning.
The boy, who lives at a townhouse complex at Glen Erin Drive near Erin Mills Parkway, wandered out of his home while this parents were sleeping.
"I was talking to the neighbour of the child that was struck by the vehicle...he heard the accident out of his window and looked outside, came down, and it was actually a three-year-old child that had gotten out of the house wearing his parents shoes and was struck by a vehicle," a nearby resident told 680News.
The boy was airlifted to the Hospital For Sick Children and remains in critical, but stable condition.
His grandfather told 680News that his grandson suffered a broken leg and some facial injuries.
The boy's parents don't know how or why their son wandered out of the home.
Police confirmed the incident was a hit-and-run.
"The child was walking on the actual roadway itself. I am standing here on the sidewalk right now looking at the scene...the shoes that are on the street, one shoe is at a light standard, the next shoe is about 20 feet past that. So the child was thrown a fair distance," he said.
Police said a witness followed the driver, who was nabbed by police about a block away from the hit-and-run.
The Mississauga man has been charged with failing to remain, causing bodily harm.
