Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion has now filed her papers to run for a 12th term as mayor of Mississauga.
McCallion said it will be her final term, and she's asking the residents of Mississauga to vote for councillors who will help her get things done.
"This is a very important election," McCallion said. "We've had troubles in the last couple years, we've had negative position in the press. All councillors and the mayor were called a bunch of drunken sailors. I don't know how you can become debt-free and be a bunch of drunken sailors."
In a news conference Tuesday afternoon, McCallion highlighted the successes of her city, including the growing number of large companies that are setting up headquarters in Mississauga, and the new Sheridan College campus being built in the city centre.
Earlier Wednesday, McCallion confirmed to 680News she'd be running for re-election in that city's October municipal election.
McCallion, 89, has served as Mississauga's mayor since 1978.
She is angry at the the fact that council has become dysfunctional because of those councillors who have tried to undermine her.
McCallion said she's not concerned about the inquiry and her upcoming appearance at it. The inquiry is probing how much she participated in a land deal involving her son.
She said she won't be running a campaign, collecting any money or spending any.
Election day is slated for October 25.
