McGuinty visits school in Markham to launch all-day kindergarten

Sep 07, 2010 12:03:38 PM
Premier Dalton McGuinty joined students at Mount Joy public school in Markham Tuesday for the first day of the school year.

McGuinty said the new all-day learning program for four- and-five-year-olds is a key reason for Ontarians to vote Liberal in next year's provincial election.

"It's not too soon for us to consider the choice everyone will have next October. I think it's going to be very clear," McGuinty said. "Ontarians will have a choice when it comes to the future of publicly-funded education. They can continue to make progress, whether its test scores, graduation rates or full-day kindergarten. Or they can put a stop to that and they can turn the clock back."

The all-day kindergarten program will cost Ontario $2.5-billion a year when it's implemented in all schools by 2015.
