TORONTO, Ont. - It's the first day of school for thousands of kindergarten students, Tuesday.
And for many, the first day will be a long one because for the first time, full-day kindergarten is being offered to about 35,000 four- and five-year-olds in Ontario.
About 600 schools are offering full-day kindergarten this fall and Premier Dalton McGuinty has promised it will be available to every child by 2015.
But critics said the government still hasn't figured out the ABCs of running its ambitious all-day kindergarten program.
Only 10 to 15 per cent of schools will offer after-hours child care that was a key component of the original plan.
But, for all students, the weather is going to make it feel like they should still be on summer holidays.
