TORONTO, Ont. - Toronto has been deemed the Ontario city with the most speed traps.
The National Motorists Association has put out their annual list of the worst North American speed trap cities and they say Toronto has more ticket-blitz zones set up around town than Los Angeles, New York City and Montreal combined.
Toronto Traffic Services Sergeant Tim Burrows told 680News the honour comes down to an involved community and not more speed detection locations.
"When you look at the numbers in the survey, there's no way that you can convince me that we have more speeding locations than the city of Los Angeles, or New York City or some of these big centres, or have 200 more locations than the city of Montreal. It's not fathomable to believe that. I think it really comes down to our community has great involvement." said Sgt Burrows.
The list was determined by counting specific speed trap zones in cities sent in by users to the national speed trap exchange website.
The executive director of the motorists’ association, which runs the website, says there are 56 different pages under Toronto for a list of speed traps.
He says that amounts to about 250 to 260 individual speed trap locations that have been reported over the past few years.
In comparison, Montreal had 65, Los Angeles had 155 and New York City had 30 spots reported.
