TORONTO, Ont. - The Opposition is calling on the Ontario government to apologize to a woman whose breast was removed under the mistaken belief she had cancer.
Laurie Johnston is suing her surgeon, pathologist and two hospitals in the Windsor, Ont., area over the mistake, which she says has impeded her ability to work.
Conservative health critic Christine Elliott says Johnston deserves an apology from the health bureaucracy and the government.
She says the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care should have notified the public as soon as it learned that other mistakes may have been made.
Regional health officials say it sent an internal document that described two other potential mistaken surgeries to the ministry on Feb. 11.
Johnston went public with her story a few days later, sparking several investigations.
