TORONTO, Ont. - Toronto Police have confirmed they have arrested a 29 year old man in connection with a jewelry theft from a dying woman's room in Toronto East General Hospital.
Thanks to calls from the public, Toronto police were able to identify both suspects responsible for stealing jewellery from a dying woman's room at Toronto East General Hospital.
However, police are still searching for the other man - a 26 year old.
Police said two men entered the hospital, located at 825 Coxwell Ave., on Tuesday night and went floor-to-floor looking for things to steal.
They eventually entered a room and stole $7,000 worth of jewellery from an unconscious woman just moments before she died.
Police said the woman's family had just left her bedside to get some coffee when the robbers struck.
They add that it is unlikely that the jewelry will ever be recovered.
Detective Christopher Higgins of 54 division said the two men were also responsible for a spate of robberies over the past two months at four other GTA hospitals, including Brampton Civic, York Central, North York General and St. Joseph’s Health Centre.
