Driver dies after garbage truck flips into ditch of DVP

TORONTO, Ont. - The driver of a City of Toronto garbage truck has died after his vehicle flipped into a ditch Friday morning, police told 680News.

The accident happened on the ramp from eastbound Bloor to the northbound Don Valley Parkway at about 5:30 a.m.

The man was trapped for more than 90 minutes.

His 48-year-old co-worker who was ejected from the truck remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Meantime, Mayor David Miller issued a statement expressing sympathies to the family, friends and co-workers of the deceased city worker.

The mayor also wished a full recovery to the employee who was hurt.
