Basic Food Flavours amends list of items recalled due to salmonella

TORONTO, Ont. - A public warning issued on March 19, has been corrected to remove Amira brand BBQ peanuts from a list of recalled products by Basic Food Flavors Inc.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is still warning the public not to consume certain foods that contain hydrolysed vegetable protein (HVP).

The foods contain dry powder and HVP ingredients, which have been recalled in the U.S. and Canada by Basic Food Flavors Inc. due to possible salmonella contamination.

The CFIA is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to remove all affected products imported into Canada from the United States.

The food inspection agency is also working with Canadian manufacturers to recall foods containing affected HVP ingredients.
