TORONTO, Ont. - A pain at the gas pump, Thursday, could be a sign of things to come.
Gas is up over two cents a litre and one energy consulting company, En-Pro, is predicting prices could be 15 per cent higher by the end of April.
Toronto gas prices are rising and are getting set to hit new records according to senior petroleum analyst at En-Pro Roger McKnight.
McKnight told 680News drivers could be shelling out the most they have ever paid to fill up before the start of May.
"By the end of April you're going to see the highest gasoline prices you have ever seen in your life. I'm calling for a Toronto price between $1.43 and $1.47 a litre. That represents a 12 to 15 per cent increase from the pump price you see today," he explained
There are three reasons the prices may skyrocket. Refinery capacity is down, speculators are pushing oil and wholesale gas prices up and Iran is cutting off crude supplies to several parts of Europe as tensions are building over their nuclear program.
Gas prices in the GTA are going up 1.9 cents at midnight to an average price of 129.3 cents a litre.
