Police release surveillance footage of Malvern Town Centre shooting

Kris McCusker and 680News staff Jan 27, 2012 14:07:08 PM
TORONTO, Ont. - Police have released surveillance footage of the Malvern Town Centre shooting.

The shooting happened around 12:45 p.m., Tuesday at Cut Creator, located at 31 Tapscott Rd., in the Neilsen Road and Mclevin Avenue area.

Police said Chris Thompson, 35, was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Det. Sgt. Dan Neilson said the murder has all the signs of a targeted hit.

"There's no doubt this was a very cool, cold-blooded crime," Det. Sgt. Neilson said. "The shooter was very discriminating. It was very clear he was targeting Chris."

Neilson said homicide detectives have no idea why someone wanted Thompson dead and they need witnesses to come forward including the customer who was getting a haircut when Thompson was gunned down.

"They left the scene before the police arrived. I'm appealing to those persons to come forward," Neilson said.

Constable Tony Vella told 680News there is at least one suspect.

"We know at least one suspect is involved in this investigation," Const. Vella said.

Police said the suspect then ran from the scene northbound through the parking lot of 31 Tapscott Rd. toward McLevin Avenue

The suspect is described as wearing dark clothing, carrying a small bag over his right shoulder and believed to be in possession of a long-barreled firearm.

The plaza was blocked off by police tape for most of the day as many members of the community stood by in shock over what had happened.

One man who lives in the area told 680News he knows most of the employees at the barbershop.

"If someone couldn't afford a hair cut, he'd help them that way. I'm not saying he'd give everybody a discount but he had a good judge of character. If someone needed help he'd help," he said.
