TORONTO, Ont. - Feel like you're spending too many hours at the office? The City of Toronto paid out more than $7-million in overtime last year alone.

Coun. Denzil Minnan-Wong told the Toronto Sun EMS workers are the most likely to work around the clock, building up hefty overtime cheques.

The department paid out nearly a million dollars in overtime to the top 25 overtime workers last year, with one EMS employee cashing in on more than $110,000 after clocking almost 1,500 hours of overtime.

Other city-paid groups commanding large overtime bills included Toronto water, technical services, fire services and transportation services.

A spokesperson for the city said the G20 summit in 2010 had a significant impact on the number of overtime hours workers put in.
