Liberals lead Tories on jobs, health care in Ontario election: survey

Ed Hand Sep 21, 2011 06:21:03 AM
The latest numbers on the Ontario election campaign show the Liberals continue to surprise as they make in-roads with voters on some key issues.

The Ipsos Reid survey found the steady-as-you-go-progress of the Liberals continues to float the boat of Grit support.

When it comes to the most important concern of Ontarians, jobs and the economy, an issue usually in the ballpark of the Conservatives -- Dalton McGuinty and the Liberals lead them by seven points on who can handle the issue the best.

Tim Eby of Navigator PR said the Liberals have tapped into the good feelings of Ontarians.

"That's rule number one in advertising is that repetition is key, and the same is true in political campaigns, you got to keep repeating these messages, otherwise they are never going to get out," Eby said.

Ipsos Reid chief executive Darrell Bricker feels the province isn't buying the Tories "doom and gloom" message.
