TORONTO, Ont. - Some local hip-hop artists have vowed to stop mentioning guns in their music to try and reverse the recent trend of young black males being shot and killed on Toronto's streets.
This comes as troubling new statistics have surfaced about gun violence in the city.
According to the Toronto Sun, 25 of the city's 28 shooting murder victims have been black males.
Ten of the 28 people shot and killed have been teenagers, including a 15-year-old who was gunned down in Regent Park in October.
Residents in the area said stopping this trend will involve massive parental and community involvement.
Various hip-hop artists will hold a news conference later on Friday to urge other artists to shun the gun as well.
