Toronto - Following the death of 33-year-old Darcy Allan Sheppard in a fatal accident on August 31, a "ghost bike" has been placed on Bloor Street West, just east of Avenue Road, at the scene of the accident.
Ghost bikes are memorials for bicyclists who are killed or hit on the street.
A bicycle has been painted white and locked to a street sign near the crash site, accompanied by a small plaque.
Ghost bikes serve as reminders of the tragedy that took place on an otherwise anonymous street corner, and as quiet statements in support of cyclists' right to safe travel.
The first ghost bikes were created in St. Louis, Mo., in 2003, and they have since appeared in over 100 locations throughout the world.
