Ontario to receive 770,000 doses of H1N1 vaccine next week, health minister says

The Canadian Press Toronto 2009-11-06 18:00

Toronto - Ontario's health minister says the province will be getting 770,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine from Ottawa next week.

Deb Matthews says 395,000 of those doses will be adjuvanted vaccine - meaning they will contain an immune-boosting additive.

The other 375,000 doses will be unadjuvanted - which is preferred for pregnant women.

Ontario has been working with a limited supply of the vaccine and provincial health officials have been anxious for more doses to be delivered.

Matthews says it is still important for members of high-risk groups to be vaccinated first and for others to wait their turn.

There has been outrage since it was learned that members of some professional sports teams and hospital board members got vaccinations while high-risk people were still waiting in line.
