Biggest lottery in Canadian history: LOTTO MAX jackpot hits $50-million plus ten additional $1-million prizes
Toronto - LOTTO MAX, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's newest lottery, has hit a jackpot of $50-million.
Don Pister, an OLG spokesperson, said "once the jackpot reaches a level of $50-million it then stays at that level and then money for the jackpot will instead be allocated into a series of individual prizes of $1-million each. These are known as MaxMillions prizes."
That means in addition to the $50-million jackpot, there will be 10 $1-million prizes up for grabs, making this week's LOTTO MAX draw the biggest in Canadian history as it breaks the record set in October 2005 when the LOTTO 6/49 jackpot reached $54.3-million.
OLG added it may be after midnight before the results are in because the extra draws are expected to take longer than usual.
Tickets were sold for five dollars each until 9 p.m.
