2010 Capital Budget to create jobs and fund community services
TORONTO - Toronto’s 2010 Capital Budget and 10-Year Capital Plan funds infrastructure, TTC and creates jobs.
The city of Toronto has laid out an ambitious list of capital projects planned fort 2010.
More than half of the budget, over $8.7-billion over 10 years, will go toward updating and expanding the TTC, including the purchase of new subway trains and streetcars.
Water and Waste Management is also budgeted to get $25.7-billion over the next 10 years.
The proposals laid out by the budget committee are meant to speed up job creation and the maintenance of City infrastructure by moving more capital spending into the first five years of the plan.
The capital budget will also fund ongoing environmental initiatives, improvements to the waterfront and Toronto’s many parks, trails, libraries and community centres.
"It allocates funds to build and renew libraries, community centres, roads, bridges police and emergency services, the waterfront and other community services." Mayor David Miller told 680News.
Mayor Miller added that the proposed capital plan will create and protect approximately 300,000 jobs.
