"Green" licence plate available in 2010 for environmentally-friendly cars
Toronto - The provincial government has unveiled a new "green" licence plate for environmentally-friendly cars and trucks.
The plate is designed for plug-in hybrid or battery electric vehicles.
It will have green lettering on a white background, with the picture of a trillum in the middle.
The design was selected from four choices in an online vote that ran from July to October, and received nearly half of the 14,000 votes.
Vehicles bearing the plates will be allowed to travel in HOV lanes, access recharging facilities at GO Transit and use designated parking spots.
The plates will be available in 2010.
