Bargaining set to resume in DriveTest strike
Toronto - Talks aimed at ending a strike by Ontario's Drivetest 550 employees resumed Wednesday at 9 a.m.
The walkout began Aug. 23, with job security the key issue, and has impacted almost 40,000 people waiting to get their licences.
Jim Young, president of United Steelworkers Union Local 9511, says health and safety and workplace procedures are other key issues.
He says there will have to be "more receptive language'' by both sides before any thought is given to marathon bargaining.
The strike affects all 55 full-time DriveTest locations and 38 part-time centres - the only facilities that grant licences to novice drivers and renew licences for motorists over 80.
