Net fund redemptions between $262.2 million and $762.2 million: IFIC

November, 3, 2009 - 05:32 pm THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO - Canadians moved between $262.2 million and $762.2 million out of mutual funds in October, according to preliminary industry data Tuesday.

The Investment Funds Institute of Canada estimated that net assets of the mutual fund industry for the month of September will be between $569.3 billion and $574.3 billion, down approximately 1.87 per cent from September's total.

"Markets took a breather at the end of October which capped off seven months of exceptional growth in assets under management," IFIC's Pat Dunwoody said in a statement.

"Assets remain about $50 billion above where they were at this point last year and we continued to see strength in long-term fund sales last month."

Hat tip to Paul Kedrosky for pointing to the review. Also worth a read: Canadian [...]

The man with a Steadyhand

This week I spoke to Tom Bradley, president of Steadyhand Investment Funds Inc., a Vancouver-based, mutual-fund group launched in April, 2007. He wanted to fill me in on what his funds were all about (I had inadvertently overlooked them in an article I did on low-fee funds awhile back). Normally, I tend to avoid actively managed [...]

New Media and Corporate Responsibility
Thu, 19 Nov 2009 13:40:08 +0000

The results of Cone’s 2009 Consumer New Media Study include two points that I found to be remarkable: “Forty-four percent of American new media users are searching for, sharing or discussing information about corporate responsibility (CR) efforts and programs…” “Sixty-two percent of users polled believe they can influence business decisions by voicing opinions via new media channels. ” While the [...]
