"What a long, strange trip it's been..." - The Grateful Dead
I didn't want to be a news guy -- not in the beginning. Something about
dealing with doom and gloom on a daily basis just didn't work for me. But, when
you want into an industry as badly as I wanted into broadcasting, you take what
you can get.
Radio news was the first opportunity to come along!
I toiled at it for a year in Lindsay. I tackled death and destruction, famine
and poverty, disease and crime. This wasn't fun, it was depressing.
Then I moved to a second radio station in Kitchener, then London, Brampton,
Victoria, B.C, Barrie, and back home to Toronto, and discovered along the way
that news is more than current events. It's information.
There are new discoveries everyday, new theories to discuss, new weapons to
fight disease, things that make you laugh and things that make you go
"hmmmmm."
The key for me is weaving these stories together with all the other things
you need to know (but that you're not sure you want to know) so when you're
finished listening, you walk away with a snapshot of what's happening in your
world, you've learned something new, shared a laugh with me and are looking
forward to our next visit.
Thanks for tuning in!
