Radio has always been my first love. I was 12 when I was bitten by the
proverbial radio bug, and although it took me a long time to pursue a career in
broadcasting, I always knew that somehow, with the right attitude and
determination, I'd make it someday.
So, after working at various fields -- basically anything and anywhere but
radio broadcasting -- I finally got impatient and decided to follow my passion,
once and for all. We only live once!
I quit my full-time job in the summer of 2007, and enrolled at Seneca's radio
broadcasting program. Everything fell in to place after that: I got engaged, and
amidst all the wedding planning and school work, I also got my foot in the door
at 680News as an intern, by spring of 2008.
The rest as they say, is history. I graduated with high honours, got married,
and I was finally on the air as a news anchor (a dream come true) before the
year ended.
Yes, working overnights does have its challenges, but what an exhilarating
ride it has been! It's so exciting to "be the first to know" when news breaks,
and to work at Canada's number one radio station for breaking news.
I know I still have a lot to learn in this business, that is why I remain
humbled in the presence of radio greats in the newsroom. I am especially
grateful for the support from veteran broadcasters who encourage me to do better
and keep me grounded with constructive criticisms. Keep 'em coming, and thank
you!
