Two ways to listen - explained

1. Listen On Demand

Listen on Demand now lets you listen to your chosen programme via the media player.

In order to do this you need to be online. When you click the "Listen" link the Radio Player should appear in a small new window, and the audio should start playing automatically.

2. Podcast

Podcasting lets you automatically receive the latest episode of your chosen programme as soon as it's available. You need to "subscribe" to receive a podcast, rather like you might subscribe to a newspaper and get it delivered each day. All our podcasts are free, and you can stop receiving the files at any time.

In order to sign up for a podcast you need an internet connection and a piece of podcast software which is usually available free of charge. This software can check the our website for new episodes and automatically download them for you.

The steps you go though in order to subscribe to a podcast will vary depending on which software you choose. You can read more about this in our Step by Step guide to getting a podcast.

Subscribing to a Podcast

You don't actually need a portable mp3 player or an iPod to listen to podcasts unless you need to hear them on the move. Any PC will do, as long as your computer has a soundcard and an net connection.

It's doesn't matter if you own an Apple or a Windows PC. If your PC can play mp3s downloaded from the internet, you can listen to podcasts.

You will also need some podcasting software. This will allow you to search for and subscribe to your favourite podcasts and have them downloaded automatically to your computer whenever a new episode or show is produced.

Most podcasting software is shareware, which means it is free and available to download from the internet.

If you are an iPod owner, Apple's recent version iTunes software now includes a podcast directory, making it easy to subscribe to and download podcasts without additional software.

Here is just a few of the podcasting software sites out there:
