Mirvish and Dancap vying for Canon and Panasonic Theatres

So many Broadway shows ... so few theatres. A legal battle is brewing between theatre giant Mirvish Productions and newcomer Dancap Productions over the Canon and Panasonic Theatres. Gloria Martin has the details.

SCTV (Part 1)

It was a night to remember at the Second City Theatre as the cast of SCTV wrapped up the reunion that marked the first time Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Martin Short, Kathryn O'Hara and Joe Flaherty. Gloria Martin was on hand for the historic night.



SCTV (Part 2)

Gloria Martin was on hand for the SCTV reunion and caught up with Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin.





Eugene Levy

Gloria Martin talked to Eugene Levy after the sold out performances where members of the SCTV cast reunited.





Andrea Martin

History was made at the Second City Theatre May 5 and 6 as the cast members of SCTV reunited for the first time in 24 years. Gloria Martin caught up with Andrea Martin who currently is starring in the Mel Brooks musical Young Frankenstein on Broadway.



Victor Garber

Canadian actor Victor Garber, well known as Jack Bristow, Jennifer Garner's father on TV's Alias and for his current series Eli Stone is in Toronto shooting a new TV mini-series but he took time to catch up with his old pals Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Martin Short, Kathryn O'Hara and Joe Flaherty at the SCTV reunion show at the Second City Theatre. Gloria Martin talked to him after he watched his SCTV friends perform sketches they hadn't done in over 30 years.


Catherine O'Hara

It's a comedy love-in on May 5 and 6 at Second City with Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short and Dave Thomas in a Second City/SCTV reunion called "The Benefit of Laughter," a fundraiser for the Second City alumni fund. In a 680News radio exclusive, Gloria Martin talks to funny lady Catherine O'Hara from her Los Angeles home as she reflects on reconnecting with her old friends and some very familiar routines.

Eric McCormack

The handsome star of TV's Will and Grace, Eric McCormack, was in the 680 studios but he wasn't talking about comedy. He got serious with Gloria Martin, revealing the reason he's supporting the Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser Relay for Life.



Mia Farrow

It's not just China's stance on Tibet that's tarnishing the Olympic games but also it's oil connections to Darfur, Sudan where the army it supports has, according to the United Nations, contributed to more than 200,000 deaths. Actress Mia Farrow who heads the activist group, Dream for Darfur, is using the Olympics as an opportunity to shine a light on the issue. Gloria Martin spoke to Farrow about it a few months ago.

Top chef Paul Bartolotta presides over the $20,000 Bartolotta Ristorante di Mare at Wynn Las Vegas. He'll be cooking up a storm for the big "Vegas Uncork'd" festival May 8th to 11th and as Gloria Martin discovered, there's something really fishy about him.

Margaret Trudeau and Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau

Two of Canada's leading ladies will be speaking at this weekend's Lifefest (for women's health, beauty and fitness) at the Metro Convention Centre. Gloria Martin caught up with Margaret Trudeau and her daughter- in- law, Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, at Chatelaine magazine's 80th anniversary bash at the Windsor Arms Hotel and talked to them about Chatelaine and Lifefest.



Joe Avati

Joe Avati is an Aussie-Italian comic who snubs his nose at political correctness and audiences are eating it up. Avati brings his comedy show to the Toronto Centre for the Arts Friday through Sunday (April 4-6) and the Mississauga Living Arts Centre May 16th. Gloria Martin talked to him about sending up his own Italian heritage.

It's a Canadian ShowBiz Love Story. Gloria Martin talks to husband and wife team: Actor Ted Dykstra and Juno award winning singer-songwriter Melanie Doan. Ted is starring in the Canadian Stage Company production FIRE based on the life of rocker Jerry Lee Lewis and his cousin, evangelist, Jimmy Swaggart. Melanie is associate music director for the show. The pair met on the set of an earlier incarnation of FIRE 20 years ago and have been together ever since.




Paul Gross

Canadian TV, movie and stage star Paul Gross, well known for his role in Due South, has co-written and stars in a new drama that looks at what would happen if Canada was dissolved as a country and joined the United States. The mini series The Trojan Horse is a gripping thriller that poses some interesting theories and feels eerily close to real current events. Gross talked to Gloria Martin about the series (CBC, Sunday March 30 and Sunday April 6 at 8:00 p.m.) and some of his other upcoming projects.




Anthony Minghella

Gloria Martin spoke to the late-Oscar winning director, Anthony Minghella, earlier this year. Minghella, who was best known for directing the academy award winning film The English Patient, passed away suddenly in March.






Rick Mercer

Funny man Rick Mercer gets serious as the host of Canada's Next Great Prime Minister, in which young people get a chance to say how they'd run the country. Talking to Mercer, Gloria Martin discovered past winners of the reality show are popping up everywhere in Canadian politics.

A little "hanky panky" launched the career of "Tommy James and the Shondells" in 1966. What followed was one of the longest string of recorded hits ever including gold singles like Crystal Blue Persuasion, Crimson and Clover, Mony Mony, Draggin' the line and I think we're alone now. The svelte action star of The Matrix Trilogy Carrie-Anne Moss stars in the new movie Normal and will soon be seen in the upcoming film Fireflies in the Garden with Julia Roberts. But her priority has become her family. Moss talks to Gloria Martin about keeping career, health and fitness in perspective while raising two young children.



Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey worked with Kate Hudson in the romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and teams up with her for the second time in the new movie Fool's Gold. Gloria Martin talked to him about bringing out the "inner child" in his treasure-hunting character and about his upcoming real life role as the father of his first child with his fiancee, Brazilian model Camilla Alves.

She starred in long runs of Les Miserables in Montreal, London and Paris and is featured on the the French-language recordings of the Paris Cast Recording and Disney Records and Films Pocahontas and Pocahontas II. She also played the lead in Barry Manilow’s MGM/UA animated musical feature; The Pebble and the Penguin and been a featured artist with the Montreal symphony. She plays The Cameron House, 408 Queen St. West, Wed. Jan. 23. Gloria Martin talked to her.
