Canadian music photographer Andrew MacNaughtan dies in L.A.

Canadian music photographer Andrew MacNaughtan has died.

For over 25 years MacNaughtan had photographed some of Canada's top recording artist such as Nickelback, Celine Dion, Avril Lavine and Micheal Buble.

Since 1989 he worked as the main photographer for Rush.

On the Rush Facebook page, members of the band expressed their sympathy for his passing.

"We're deeply shocked and heartbroken to learn of the sudden passing of our close friend and long-time photographer, Andrew MacNaughtan. He was a sweet person and a very talented artist. Words cannot describe how much he will be missed."- Geddy, Alex & Neil

There has been word that MacNaughtan suffered a heart attack in Los Angeles while on photo assignment with the band, however no official cause of death has been released.

Senior music editor of Celebrity Axcess Larry LaBlance said McNaughtan was able to show Canadian musicians through his photography as an art form for the world to see.

"He was one of the best in the world and whether he was doing RUSH or Avril Lavigne, he could compete with the best in the world."

On Twitter, singer Jann Arden expressed her coldolences.

"My dear friend Andrew MacNaughtan passed away yesterday in LA. I will miss his kind and generous heart. Safe travels dear Andrew..."

MacNaughan also released a book of photography called "Grace: Africa In Photographs" after a three-week adventure in Kenya and Tanzania.  Proceeds from the book went to his charity Art Gives Hope.
