Steven Spielberg doesn't hesitate to direct his backstage interview and photo shoot

Anthony McCartney, The Associated Press Jan 15, 2012 22:59:00 PM

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - You've got to hand it to Steven Spielberg. The guy never stops directing, even when he's being interviewed moments after collecting a Golden Globe Award.

Asked backstage if he would hold up the trophy his movie "The Adventures of Tintin" was awarded for best animated film, the Oscar-winning director had a question of his own.

"This for the digital video camera or a still camera?" Spielberg asked.

"Cause I can move it a little bit if you want me to move it," he added, noting that would give the shot a more animated look.

The room burst into laughter as Spielberg then began to shimmy, saying, "A little animation."

"I learned everything from Andy Serkis," he continued, citing the actor who portrayed the lead primate in the last "Planet of the Apes" film.

Not all the excitement of the Golden Globes takes place in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The lobby bar becomes a pretty happening place itself, especially when the show wraps up.

"Once the show is over, it gets crazy," says Debbie Price of Santa Barbara, and she should know. She's been coming to the Globes every year, hanging out at the bar with a dozen friends she met there beginning nine shows ago.

The group sits at the bar watching the show on flat-screen TVs as they have drinks, munch on chips and wait for the celebrities to flood the lobby after the last award is presented.

"There's a mad rush of people," said Price. "You might have Harrison Ford next to reality stars. It's exciting. We try to get their attention. At the end of the night, we count how many celebrities we've seen."

During the show itself, Price and her friends keep a close watch on the restrooms, hoping they might see someone duck into the lobby during a break.

"Everyone here wants to see someone different," Price said. "I would love to see the TV actors. David Duchovny is my favourite."
