TORONTO, Ont. - Actor Dan Aykroyd got his start on Toronto's Second City stage and last night he helped to raise money for another Toronto theatre group.
Aykroyd hosted an evening at the Famous PEOPLE Players dinner theatre in Etobicoke.
The FUNdraiser included a menu presented by Executive Chef Christopher Woods.
The funny man got serious when he spoke about helping out to raise money for a worthy cause.
"Theatrical causes to me are particularly dear and also rising over ones personal obstacles in life. I was quite gifted, I came out alright with a few little quirks here or there but all of us have things to surmount psychologically and physic and this is such an inspiration - this group." Aykroyd told 680News.
The world famous black light theatre troupe is composed of players with varying degrees of developmental challenges. Aykroyd said he is very impressed with their talents.
"The nature of the challenge makes it just one of the unique organizations in the world. I enjoy the self empowerment that it brings. You've got a really first professional theatrical operation here. Where everybody contributes, it's team work. They build the sets, they do the costumes they do the lighting. Each one developing a skill. Each one feeling good about his or her self."
The black light show featured a tribute to Aykroyd's popular "Ghostbuster" movies.
Fellow funny man Ron James was also on hand along with Mayor Rob Ford.
