Morning Show Editor

About Samantha

It has always been my dream to work at 680 NEWS. I know it may sound cheesy, but for me, it’s true. When I was 13-years-old I knew I wanted to become a journalist and in high school I set the goal for myself to intern at 680 NEWS and ultimately end up working here (I even subconsciously used the 680 green on my resume). During my final year of journalism at the University at Guelph-Humber in 2015, I became an intern at the station, working with overnight, weekend and midday crews. I quickly realized just how much I loved the newsroom atmosphere and a month and a half after my internship came to an end, I landed a job as an audio editor. In July 2015, I began being trained as an editor, building the newscast for various evening and weekend shifts. Less than two years later, I was given the opportunity to cover the 680 morning show for eight months. I enjoyed every minute and learned so much from the talented veterans that work at the station. They were so welcoming and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to help shape me into the editor that I am today. In February of 2018, I was promoted to morning show editor and it feels so great to be back with this team. I now have a wake-up call of 1:30 a.m., and have to take two naps to get a full eight hours of sleep, but it is totally worth it. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything else in the world. If you are going to school for journalism or broadcasting, I highly recommend completing an internship if you are given the opportunity. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. Thank you for listening and waking up early with us!
