Laurie Turcotte
Traffic Reporter, Evening
I began my broadcasting career with Rogers in 1998, working as a traffic reporter at CHYM FM/570 CKGL. As challenging as it was to learn the highways and by-ways of Kitchener-Waterloo, nothing keeps me on my toes so much as reporting traffic for the GTA!
When I train staff for traffic reporting and see the look of concern for the level of multitasking we do, it gives me a renewed sense of pride in my job. Although traffic reporting is the job "most loathed" in the newsroom, there is no greater satisfaction than hearing from an appreciative listener.
My career in radio has been varied, I have worked at other stations doing news, business, hosting and co-hosting. I enjoy acting and have been hired for various TV commercials, infomercials, training videos and print work. I love to be on a learning curve where my career is concerned, and found that attending The Second City for two terms to be a very challenging, but awesome experience.
In my down time, I am a complete bookworm! I have recently started studying the Hebrew language, which has been a much needed cerebral challenge. Not that this helps with traffic reporting, but you never know where you'll end up!
I share my living space with a demanding and incredibly funny feline, whose antics are always good for a couple of chuckles around the newsroom.
